The idea of the Shuqualakian Scholarship Foundation began to take form at a 1973 class reunion from our founding members Mr. Percy Murdock and Mr. Charles Gully. This class reunion took place at a Holiday Inn in East Saint Louis on Broadway. They were so inspired by the camaraderie of the reunion that they wanted to emulate this experience by forming a convention that would bring many towns people and Shuqualakian people together. The first official convention took place in 1974 at Stouffer’s River Front Inn downtown St. Louis. From then on the Shuqualakian Scholarship Foundation has gone on to give over 100 scholarships over the past 45 years.
